Somehow, the yarn Sairy send me in her wonderful swap package, wants to be scarved up. I have not decided on what to do with the Noro yarn, but here's my first go at the Paton's.
The yarn is very nice to work with, though I guess it is not too good to use on projects were you are likely to frog a lot in-between. I very much like the colouring effects. Which tempts me a little to use the yarn for softies, because those self-colouring things turn out quite nice, mostly, but then, scarves are so nice to crochet, either. :)
I think it might be a little scratchy for a matching cap and too thick for mittens...
I got it! I got it! I got it!
When I came home yesterday, two swap packages were waiting for me. One was just a small keychain swap (a Halloween pumpkin for me) and the other was - tadaaa - Sairy's wonderful yarn! :-)
There was a cake of Manos de Uruguay, four skeins of Paton's SWS, one skein Noro, and a grandiouse tape measure. I thought about taking pictures the next morning, when the light would be better. And I thought about dinner. But then I found myself, with hook in hand, crocheting away on the Manos de Uruguay. It was not enough for a full scarf, but I had this nice black yarn that was waiting for a good scarf pattern - four hours later I had watched three news shows, a couple of documentaries and the end of "Familienfest und andere Katastrophen" on tv - and the Manos was finished. I have to round the scarf off with a lining of black, but at least I could go to bed - no dinner and waaay later than I normally do. I strongly do suspect the yarn just jinxed me. I did not even think about alternative patterns before I started...
P.S.: I'm a designer on ravelry, now! :-)
update: A photo is two posts up.
Just to not forget about my swaps; here's an update:
personal swaps:
- with n (no deadline) - almost finished!
- gorgeous surprise packages with tl (going on and on - but time to send my current package) just one item missing
- crochet hook swap with Cecinatrix (still in negotiation phase so, I might get them elsewhere easier and save her the hussle)
- Spanish crochet books with Livia (still in negotiation phase)
- envelopes (July)
- sunflowers (summer)
- summer stuff (end of june) photos taken; I just have to send them
- crochet hook cases (15.7.) started on an idea I don't like anymore - might drop this
- Christmas presents (december) one item done; I could leave it at that
updated, one dropped from the list
Surfing around, I realized I just considerably increased my amount of swaps and stuff.
So, just to get sorted:
personal swaps:
- with n (no deadline)
wristwarmers in the first stadium of negotiations (no deadline yet)- gorgeous surprise packages with tl (going on and on - but time to send my current package)
- crochet hook swap with Cecinatrix (still in negotiation phase so, I might get them elsewhere easier and save her the hussle)
- Spanish crochet books with Livia (still in negotiation phase)
- envelopes (July)
- sunflowers (summer)
- amigurumi (15.6.)
- summer stuff (end of june)
- crochet hook cases (15.7.)
- Christmas presents (december)
But then, swaps are sooo addictive. I have been swapping a couple of times during the last year, and I had just one swap I was disappointed with.
What have I gotten myself into? There are three swaps I have to finish by the end of the month, the swap of inspirations I started myself, and two swaps involving a dragon I still have to design... I have to write a proposal, compose an end-of-semester-test, the weekly exercises, work on the translation - why am I always jumping at the idea of swapping? *sigh*
Yesterday, I finished the body part of my crochet cardigan. I'm so happy it worked out so well. I just used one of my favorite pullovers as a blueprint, so the design looks even pretty knifty. I should write up the pattern properly before I forget what my abbreviations mean. Hm, maybe I should even post it here...
