I'm done with half of the strings! 132 more hearts to go...
First, here are the promised photos of my entrelac scarves. I did not get much finished last week; I'd taken too many large projects along. My heart count is at 124 currently. The big heart is still in the
hexagon phase. I made two pairs of wirstwarmers, though, for my niece and one of her friends. I just have to add the little butterflies for her. The pattern is from one of my wonderful japanese crochet books. Then I made my first hairband. I'm not sure whether crocheting them is a good idea, because when stretched, the rubber shows through. With this light green, that is not so much of a problem, but still...My great feat of the last week was to teach a left-handed girl how to crochet. For me, it was a little exercise in topology and geometry, to rethink the stitches for the other hand. And she is a natural, so it was a very satisfying teaching experience. :-)
There's 424 people in front of me on the ravelry list. This number did not change the last three times I checked - just the number of people behind me increased.
I was planning to upscale the little white test heart a couple of posts below. What was keeping me was the necessety to make a gauge swatch first. If I wanted to start the heart in the middle, I have to decide before I start how large it is going to be. And I have to count chains... Hey, wait, there's a conditional in that text! Why does anyone force me to start the heart in the middle? Now I start with a hexagon, make that as large as I want it to be (and it is a shawl, so who cares about a little give and take in the end?) and just add the rest of the heart afterwards. I'm at round seven right now. There will be between 10 an 15 needed for the starting hexagon. Adding on the rest will need a little more concentration on the pattern, but I made a sketch and it should work out nicely. Ah, right, the technique is called delta crochet.
So, this is what I'm going to take on my holidays: little red hearts, big red heart, up and down scarf, TRex without legs and the Hello Kitty cushion, which is done crocheting but needs tedious sewing. Some spare yarn for in-between monsters.
Yesterday, I stopped staring at the felt I bought last week and went to work with it.
It feels kind of odd to not have a continuing thread to crochet from, and the blanket was covered in little fuzz afterwards, but it had something, too. Especially since I could always decide what colour to use on the next few stitches. For the heart, I just used two shades of blue. And I used up all the light blue. That leaves me with four more shades. Maybe I should make them into a dragon...
So, this is what the result looks like (picture taken at daylight, so the colour is more accurate):
The little lilac piece is the result of trying out my new tiny needles. The yarn is size 80, but it was still too big for the 0.4mm needle. I wonder where I can find thread thin enough for it. Maybe extra-thin sewing yarn.
